Joint Pain Q & A

What is joint pain?

Your body contains 360 different joints, each made up of tendons, ligaments, bone, and cartilage. Injury or damage to any part of these joints may lead to pain. Joint pain can range from mild to severe and occur in one or more joints in your body, including the knee, hip, shoulder, wrist, ankle, or spine.

Joint pain may be accompanied by swelling, stiffness, or a decreased range of motion in the affected joint.

What causes joint pain?

The team at Empire Physical Therapy have extensive experience helping people recover from various injuries and medical conditions that cause joint pain in many areas of the body.

How does physical therapy help joint pain?

Your journey to recovery at Empire Physical Therapy begins with a comprehensive consultation with an expert physical therapist. They spend about an hour evaluating your condition, then design a customized treatment plan.

Depending on your specific needs, your physical therapy sessions may include:

  • Hands-on (manual) therapy
  • Ultrasound therapy
  • Electrical stimulation

You can expect to spend about 45 minutes to an hour at each one-on-one therapy session, and you’ll meet with the same therapist each time. In addition to your visit in your private treatment room, your therapist may teach you exercises to increase your strength and flexibility in Empire Physical Therapy’s state-of-the-art gym facility.
